Hihi, Nadiah here!

On the 10th of July 2011 Kesenian Si Anak Tari from Temasek Polytechnic performed at the event “Muara Pesta Tari Melayu Singapura 2011”. The event was held at Esplanade Outdoor Theatre. After a week of intensive training ending late and a whole day of intensive training the day before our show, we were prepared to give our best for this event!

Schools from over all over Singapore as well as Local Groups were present there too! So you can imagine how nervous and excited we were for this event! We got ready at school as early as 9am before heading for out show slotted at approximately 4.10 pm.
And yes, the weather was indeed on our side.
The wind made our hair seemed more “Boomz” with all the turning around! Awesome~

So yes, SNT would like to thank our beloved choreographer Sharifah Asheiqeen Syed Idruss! Her dance piece has indeed resulted in us suffering from a lot of butt aches and sore thighs but dayum it was worth it. The dance was piece was beautiful in an aggressive way and it definitely was a memorable dance piece!

HI GIRLS! To the seniors who have successfully completed their 3 year course in TP and to the juniors who cleared all of their main papers........ I would like to say..

HEHEHE. I hope most of us have done well for our semestral examinations and as for the seniors... having to graduate within 3 years is probably one of the best feeling in the world since you have officially own a Diploma certificate in your very hands!! To those who may not have met their expectations or what more... do not be disheartened. You may get upset for a short while but importantly, move on and do something productive about it. Things happen for a reason and you never know how things can turn around for you. :) well I hope none of us are caught up in disappointing situations.

As for now, let's gear up for our production!!! Commencing in less than 24 hours. Chuck your problems, worries and misery aside and heads up for our performance. Let's give our best shot and make SNT proud. Especially to the alumni(s) who will be turning up to give us their kind support. See all of you at 10am today!

Training Updates

Hey girls! We have exactly 8 days to production. We are left with 5 trainings ONLY to brush up, coordinate and standardize our dance steps as a group. Let's hope everyone is able to turn up for all trainings onwards. It's crucial we have full attendance! :)

Here are the training dates just in case some of us have forgotten..

Thursday (10/3) - 6-10pm
Saturday (12/3) - 10am-2pm

Monday( 14/3) - Production Preview from 1pm to 6pm. Dance training from 6pm to 10pm(MUST COME!!!)

Tuesday (15/3) - 6-10pm

Wednesday (16/3) - 5pm. Full Dress rehearsal.

Friday (18/3) - PRODUCTION!!! All to report by 10am.

Hey girls. Remember our Passing Down Ceremony(PDC)?! PDC is basically the passing down of roles from the graduating committee members to the new freshies and juniors to become the new committee members of SNT. This is a tradition in SNT among ourselves to elect new committee members by collating individual's votes and decision finalized by our President.

CURIOUS FOR SNT'S NEW COMMITTEE MEMBERS? Just wait! :P

This time round, our PDC was held at Sentosa, Pahlawan beach. Something different and outdoor planned by our very own freshies and juniors. Not forgetting our beloved alumni(s) who were involved in this ceremony. Thank you Kathy, Dian and Ziela for your presence. :) If it wasn't for everyone's efforts to contribute the food, games, decorations, we wouldn't have celebrated this ceremony joyfully. So, the highlight of 2010's PDC was the BOHEMIAN THEME! Our dearest instructors and seniors each received an invitation card to attend to this PDC. In addition, everyone received a colourful hand-made headband specially done by Aida. The girl with magic hands!

TP Open House

HELLO! Finally, a refreshing new post to start off with. Apologies for the lack of updates and the dusty blog! Before I blabber more, I'll update on SNT's previous performances in school(which is kinda outdated but you willwanna know anyway hehe)

As we all know, TP held an open house for 3 days to welcome our secondary school students to feel and have a 'taste' of TP's atmosphere. Without performances from the performing arts group and the blast of hip music, nothing would turn out interesting to capture the students' attention. Right?! Well of course, we were involved in this major event in school! SNT managed to put up 2 performances for 2 consecutive days. Despite the rain, late notice and uncalled-for rush, we still did a great job to pull off an amazing performance on Day 1 and Day 2! Who says SNT can't do their thing? *winks

The massive crowd and loud applause after our performance showed that our efforts paid off! We hope the secondary school students would be motivated to study harder to secure a place in TP and join...... SNT! :)

Hey lovelies!
I know its currently the exam period and everyones so stressed up about their papers. Some might even get into some sort of depression or are starting to feel down coz papers were hard. Some are on SIP. And the company you're attached to isnt exactly the one you had expected. Funky colleagues and crazee workload. Driving you nuts and all. So you start to pull your hair and nothing else matters so u under-dress to work or school. Hahaha! Fret not loves, i know you'll all do just fine. In fact i know all of you will do great! So heres a lil somehting to cheer you up during this so-called crazee, stressful period :)

You girls should relax. No point stresing up. Yeah, we have papers, school, work and what not, but we should really give ourselves a break after all the effort we've put in. So... after tomorrow, put aside all those lecture notes and tutorial worksheets and do a lil somehting for yourselves and the people around you...

Prepare Christmas gifts for our Christian friends...

Hang out with your best buds!

and play dress up with them...

Or dress up alike and go out to have fun!

HI BABIES!

Its been quite some time since this blog was updated! So, SQeen to the rescue. hahaha. Not really la. Not that exciting but okay la. So! A few important things to note. Since its the exam period and alot are on SIP, we dun get to meet often even if we had trainings. Thus, this is the second best mode of communication. As you all know, we're printing new t-shirts! Isnt that sexciting! Most definitely for ME! and you i suppose. I havent gotten the chance to show ya'll the design. So, i'll post it up here. And the details too.

Embroidery : Name in black colour on left sleeve
Unit price : $20 each (Dun worry, you girls pay only $16. $4 we fund from SNT.)

And its not the final, not totally completed yet. I'll insert the logo and blend it in and the "tersemat irama di dalam jiwa"-Design willbe in black. This pic above isnt shaded yet. I'll try to get it done by mid week. AND the dancer silhouette wont be linked like above, it'll be separated. Tu try try jer.

Behind will be words: SNT, Kesenian Si Anak Tari and Dancer I know initially, we agreed upon a certain shade of pink and gold printing. However, that shade of pink we decided on is not available and the gold printing is costly. Like major. So, we'll stick to black printing and hot pink. Fine with all? I have tried to accommodate so try to work with me girls! okay? :) If any of ya'll have major objection to this, do inform me personally. Dun worry i wont bite hehe

And so, i know 20 bucks is like super duper expensive, ill couldnt get cheaper price so we'll fund $4 each from SNT. Dun expect a large amount to be funded though coz as we all know, kita bukannya kaya sangat. Agak agak la. haha.

AND OH! Do not forget to come down and support your very own SNT dancers during Arts at the Mall at West Mall this Saturday and Sunday, 2.30pm onwards! We'll be doing christmas songs too! We'll be known as Afrah. Be there or be triangle.

Hey funky people!

Open house 2011 is coming very soon. The dates would be 6-8 January. Im not too sure when exactly SNT will be performing. But it could be on any of this dates. We are required to dance 1 piece, thus it'd be the same for the 2 different slots or 2 pieces, one at each of the 2 different slots. It has yet to be decided. However, since we have ample time, i suggest we try dancing 2 pieces IF the 2 slots fall on the same day, which i doubt. I think it'll be like last year, on 2 different days. If that happens, we can afford to dance the same piece. Further details like songs have not been decided. Only on Monday then we can confirm the songs. Duration would be 5 minutes or less. Sooooooo! Lets get our hearts pumping and stamina built for 2011 babies!

I think the hardest thing to conquer on stage as a performer is not nerves or the tendency to forget your steps. As a performer, you are highly dependent on the energy given out from the people in the venue - may it be other performers or audiences. That, I feel, is one very big challenge to overcome.

After watching several videos of live performances on YouTube, I realised that without the support and encouragement from the members of the audience, the performance is just a showcase of a performer's ability to remember lyrics, dance steps or both. You may be a seasoned pro like Beyoncé, but when the crowd's dead, so is your energy.

From personal experience, and I think many performers would agree with me, the louder the crowd is ( in a positive way ), the better the performance. When you get on stage and the crowd is "dead", you immediately feel deflated and the motivation to perform goes down a little bit, and you try so very hard to keep up the smile and positive air.

Energy. That's what performers need to put on the best show they can. As a performer, you want to bring smiles to people's faces, you want to make their day. When you give your all on stage and the audience reciprocates...it's one of the best feelings in the world, i swear. Like all your hard work and commitment is being appreciated and acknowledged by complete strangers. Awesome (:

Dance Assignment @ Civil Defence Academy

Everyone deserves a break once in a while, including the brave men of Singapore at CDA ( Jln Bahar ).

So the dancers and helpers got up and ready at 7am ( add a couple of minutes ) and had a mad dash across the island from Hougang to the West Side. After bypassing hogging cars and finding our way into the camp, we arrived, safe and sound.

So the time of the year has come again for us to forgive, forget and celebrate being alive! As important as it is to spend time with our blood families, it is just as important to give attention to our extended families. Launch of SFMA

This happened on the 14th of September. Sorry we were unable to update you on our awesome performance on the day of performance itself. We were all too tired! LOL! Well, although the entire day didnt go as expected, SNT never fails to make the best out of each show. And thats what i love most about us. We never sulk no matter how much we screwed up. Neither do we put the blame on each other whenever things dont turn out the way we want it to be. Coz you know why? We're a team. And everything we do reflects all of us, not just one dancer, but all our dancers. We handle things together as a team and if one were to have to take a blame, all of us will back her up. Yeah, coz we're FAMILY :) And so, this 14th September show reflected all of those aspects i have mentioned above. We managed to pull through a great day. On top of that, we looked awesome. Despite the rush and madness, and of course, the mistakes we made here and there during the performances, im still proud of us. Always have been :)

A pat on the back for my lovely dancers Atikah, Melissa, Fadaria and a special thank you to our two lovely helpers, Wirda and Nadiah. Love you girls to bits!

Teacher's Day is celebrated with great enthusiasm in many parts of the world. The day is dedicated to teachers, who play a prominent role in the life of their students. The teachers act as the guide for life. They show the path towards success and enrich the personality of their disciples by imparting ethical, cultural and academic knowledge. They bring out the untamed talents of their students and sharpen it in order to bring out the best results.

Therefore SNT would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to this two most important and amazing people we call our Abangs.

To Abang Mimin and Abang Ajit,

"The dream begins with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs and pushes and leads you to the next plateau, sometimes poking you with a sharp stick called truth."

This two incredible people have always believed in us. They are the people who believe that SNT can do anything and to them, nothing is impossible if we try. They have never lost faith in us and have guided us and brought us to where we are now. They have taught us not only dance, but also the way of life. They have genuinely and generously passed down their amazing knowledge of culture, religion, art and everything else to us. Without fail, our Abangs have indeed made us better people. They have crafted us into beautiful dancers and has taught us the art of sisterhood and living well. They teach with their heart, and that whats most important.

They are the people who have inspired us to achieve success. They have the ability to turn dust into gold. Not all of us came into SNT with a dance background. And not many of us have experienced dancing before. Some of us came into SNT with absolutely nothing but the will to learn. Some of us came into SNT without any talent in dancing but the desire to develop the talent. See, we did not come perfect when we joined SNT, but look how far we have come now. We managed to accomplish what we promised ourselves and our abangs during orientation in the earlier part of the year, which is to have an open heart and learn as much as possible. We did and we have managed to improve and achieve. And what drove us to this level? Motivation and inspiration. And Abangs, both of you are our motivation and inspiration.

Most of us have had the good fortune of having at least one good teacher who shaped our thoughts. We have two. Double the goodness. Both of you have different styles of teaching and dancing and that made us more versatile dancers. Also because both of you have your own unique way of choreographing, we have learnt so much. Someone once said, "The lessons of a good teacher remain etched in ones soul." Your teachings have always remained etched in our souls. We are blessed to have the presence of such teachers in our lives.

"A teacher is like a candle, it consumes itself to light the way of others."
You made the impossible possible and nothings ever too high to reach for.
We miss and love both of you very much.

Sorry if the SNT blog has been a little too quiet since Raya Gemilang was aired on suria. Thats coz trainings has been hectic during the puasa month and theres just so many things to do to prepare us all for Seni Lebaran. But no more excuses now coz training pon on hold till after raya. Last sat we welcomed two new members to SNT! Say hello to Sarah and Shikin everyone! We are more than happy to have such lovely newcomers and now theres a 2nd shikin! hahahaha. k i shall shuddup and get to the point. Anw, Last sat was also SNT reflections day. Its prolly the first time SNT is doing refelctions. The objective was to let out all thats unsaid and settle all disputes and disagreements among each other, which i honestly thing was a terrific, pleasant way to come to a solution to the identified problems. Communication's the key girls. But sometimes, i understand that its not easy to speak out and tell how you really feel about things sometimes, so reflections were implemented to make it easier for you us. Thus, questionnaires were printed out for you girls to fill in. After which, it ended with an ESSAY! you might be thinking, why an essay? Its basically like those reflection journals youll have to hand in at the end of every semester. Yeah, just like that but the SNT way. So, the 2 hours was fruitful and we managed to settle all disputes, insyaAllah, and also clear any misunderstandings.

Boundaries, rules and regulations were set to get SNT back on track. Its not that i don't love you girls the way you are or how SNT is, but some rules have to be set in order to get things done for formality sake. I hope you girls understand that as an independent group now, or more like since last AY, we should practice some basic rules mentioned last saturday. I hope nobody took it too hard as it was only meant to solve whatever miscommunications we've had thus far. Ive learnt many things from your reflections and i began to understand you girls better. As much as i want to be lenient during trainings and shows, i cant really do that you see. Else, what would SNT turn out to be in the future to come without rules? We, the committee, promise to make trainings fun and exciting and trust me, sejak bila sheiqeen strict sangat? hahaha betol tk? So you see, there must be a balance. Ive read all your reflections. I really took time to sit down in a peaceful environment and read what you girls have written down. Ive also decided to reply to your reflections, so be sure to receive a love letter from me this coming tuesday! hehehe

Menyambut Bulan Ramadhan, Bulan yang suci.

Hari ini, kita telah kedatangan tamu agung, tamu yang kita tunggu-tunggu selama 11 bulan lamanya. Dialah bulan suci Ramadhan. Bulan yang penuh dengan berkah, bulan yang sangat diistimewakan oleh Allah. Di dalamnya terdapat malam yang lebih baik dari seribu bulan, di dalamnya penuh dengan rahmah, ampunan, dan pembebasan dari api neraka. Bulan yang dirindukan kedatangannya dan ditangisi kepergiannya oleh orang-orang yang sholeh.

Pada bulan inilah kaum muslimin seharusnya melakukan pengembaraan rohani dengan mengekang nafsu syahwat dan mengisi dengan amal-amal yang mulia. Semua itu merupakan momen dan sekalius saran yang baik untuk mencapai puncak ketaqwaan. Dosa dan kekhilafan juga merupakan sasaran yang akan kita hapuskan dalam bulan Ramadhan ini.

Bulan Ramadhan bulan berganda. Setiap apa saja yang dilakukan akan mendapat balasan berganda. Malahan nafsu kita juga turut berganda walaupun pada bulan ini syaitan dirantai oleh Allah. Ini adalah kerana nafsu telah bertapak di hati dan bermaharajalela.

Saudara-saudari,

Apabila kita membuat kesilapan kita sering menyalahkan syaitan dan iblis yang menggoda kita. Tetapi mengapakah kesilapan yang sama turut berlaku dalam bulan Ramadhan? Adakah rantai-rantai yang membelit kaki-kaki syaitan itu terlalu panjang hingga dapat memberi 'petunjuk' kepada kita?

Sabda Rasulullah saw.:

"Apabila datang bulan Ramadhan, dibukakan pintu langit dan ditutup pintu neraka serta dibelenggu segala syaitan."

Semoga dengan keberkatan Ramadhan ini kita akan dapat menggilap kembali hati kita yang pudar dan melumpuhkan nafsu-nafsu hitam yang bertahta di hati kita selama ini. Oleh itu, inilah masa yang perlu digunakan sebaik mungkin untuk mendidik kembali nafsu kita yang selama ini dikongkong oleh syaitan. Berpuasa bukanlah sekadar berlapar semata-mata. Tetapi puasa adalah berlapar di samping mendidik nafsu dan peribadi manusia. Ini adalah jihad yang maha besar yang perlu dihadapi oleh setiap umat Islam.

Nabi Muhammad saw pernah bersabda:

"Berjihadlah kamu dengan lapar dan dahaga kerana pahalanya seperti pahala mujahid di jalan Allah (fi sabilillah) dan sesungguhnya tiada amalan yang lebih diperkenankan oleh Allah selain menahan lapar dan dahaga"

Saudara-saudari,

Bulan Ramadhan ini adalah anugerah Allah sebagai lambang kasih sayang kepada hamba-hamba Nya. Allah tidak mensia-siakan keletihan umatnya yang berpuasa hinggakan tidur di waktu siang juga diberikan pahala. Begitu besarnya kasih sayang Allah pada kita. Oleh itu marilah bersama-sama kita menilai diri kita. Semoga tahun ini amalan kita akan semakin bertambah dan sempurna perlaksanaannya. Insya Allah. Janganlah kita termasuk dalam golongan yang menganiayai diri sendiri.

Sabda Rasulullah saw:

"Barangsiapa yang mendirikan Ramadhan dengan penuh keimanan nescaya diampunkan segala dosa-dosanya yang lalu."

FLASHMOB RAYA GEMILANG!!!!!
Last Sunday, the 8th of August 2010, SNT participated in Raya Gemilang Flashmob organised by Mediamorphosis. Were invited by a dear TP alumni, Hydil. And then we were handled by the people of Mediamorphosis. It kicked start with a training session with some of the representatives fromt he various participating groups at paya ubi industrial park. Yes, an industrial park. What a place! hahaha. But nonetheless, despite the relatively small place to train in a badly ventilated place, we got the job done! Within a week or so, the rest of the SNT dancers mastered the steps to the song, Joget Kesyukuran. Then we had rehearsals at NUS together with all the participants of the event. It was awesome! Loads of new friends were made within just two days of rehearsals. We were practically talking like we've known each other for so long. What can i say... We dancers are very friendly people! hehe! And so the actual shooting day arrived. About time! Coz we were so drained with rehearsals. Coz we were practically on repeat mode. Doing the dance again and again. Nonetheless, we told ourselves "WE CAN DO IT!" and SNT did it. An experience full of joy and new friends! hehe ;p

Rentak Singapura 2010!!

After weeks of training, it finally paid off. Alhamdulillah, everything went well. Alhamdulillah X-clusive, the group we were dancing for, emeged champion. Alhamdulillah, i have such dedicated and committed girls, im so touched. It was held at Downtown East D'marquee around 8 int he night. We were there since morning for the rehearsals, to get prepared and what not. Although we were drained by the week of trainings, we still managed to keep our spirits up high and were positive about the night. Makeup and wadrobe was fantastic. We looked like angels sent from above. Or maybe we are? hehe. My beautiful angels sent from above. So thankful for having these few people in SNT. For those who werent performing, as much as you girls wanted to come, sorry we couldnt get you guys tickets to watch us perform. Plus tics were charged at 25 bucks each. Nonetheless, you girls are always in our hearts and are our pillars of strength, guiding us through the amazing performance. The sense of satisfaction, performing for the winning team, was INCREDIBLE. You girls are INCREDIBLE♥

Heres what we have done so far for Rentak Singapura...

Feedback was... We're good and somewhere there already. However, we might need to add in more stakato movements and we also have to improve on synchronisation, which i too have to agree. Like more sharp movements instead of all so flowy so theres a mix. Ive searched again, on youtube, for ideas and i think this few bunch of people are quite an inspiration, dance wise ;p

Girls watch our routine again and again and try to get the timings right before our next training in order to synchronise better!

As you girls are aware of, we are performing for Rentak Singapura on the 31st of July 2010 at D'Marquee and we have less than a week to choreograph the entire song!So ive been looking through youtube searching for inspirations. I searched for Lyrical dance routines and my oh my they are of amazing help! So i wanna share it with you girls. So that in any case i cant absorb their amazing routines, you girls can remember a few steps and share during the next training which is tomorrow! HAHA don't mean to bring it up but oh wells. We can do it bebehs!!!

Artistic Collaboration Induction Camp 2010

Collaboration of Kesenian Si Anak Tari, Panjy Sry Temasek and Nira Nyertika

Arts Induction Camp, a 2 days 1 night camp, was organised by SNT, ourselves. It was held at Temasek Polytechnic itself on 17th June to 18th June. This is pretty outdated hehe but who cares. The memories of this camp will forever be etched in our minds for I have been told by my seniors that this is the first time SNT made a collaboration with the Dikir Barat group - Panjy Sry Temasek and Nira Nyertika.

All of us had to separate from our 'cliques' to mix and mingle around with the other group members of the various performing arts. The outcome: 4 groups - a mixture of PST, SNT and Nira in each group. Well, by learning, understanding and appreciating each other's performing art, the 4 groups took turn to 'experience' a short session on how it feels like to perform dikir barat or tarian. As for us, SNT, we had a chance to go through the vocal training session and had a short and mini once-through round of dikir barat wherelse the dikir barat members learnt how to dance! Dance is TIRING, afterall! :P

On the 2nd day, the objective of this camp was to come up with a performance consisting of dikir barat and tarian using our own creativity and based on what we have learnt from our previous sessions, which was why, we had to learn the basic techniques of the other performing group. Sounds like a challenge huh? It definitely was! Not forgetting, dikir barat and SNT put up our own performance too to showcase on what we have.

Hi readers! Firstly, apologies due to our long absence and lack of updates. Nadee freshie is here to clear the dust off this rusty blog woot woot! What not, the seniors have been busy and occupied with dance trainings as we are involved in several upcoming future performances hehe. Recently, SNT has participated in certain events. Like this one above, as mentioned, SNT @ Arts at the Mall and more to go.. which I will post up right after this.

For this event, which marks the first performance for a brand new 2010 as well as for the Freshies, SNT managed to clear one week of intense dance trainings in preparation of 3 dance performances! WOW much yes indeed. A big fat thank you to the seniors who have put in 101% effort into making this a huge success for all of us in terms of welfare, organisation and choreography. We'd like to express our gratitude to Wirda for the generous hospitality to doll ourselves up at her place. Good food, good people!

SNT put up 3 performances namely - Zapin, Sri Langkat and Gempita.

Among the 3 pieces, Gempita was a dance full of impact! The dance piece which attracted many people to join us in this event and of course, their loud applause was greatly appreciated. Our hard work and effort paid off! In fact, all of our 3 pieces were as good too! Bottomline, we did a terrific job in delivering an awesome performance for each dance piece. BAIK SNT!

Hey babies!
Remember we once talked about doing community service such as putting up a mini performance at old folks homes? Yep, we're planning to do so during this holidays. However, as we'll most prolly be busy training for CCA Recruitment, we will not be performing for them at the old folks home. What we will be doing would be stuffs like interacting with them, singing for them, reading to them etc.

During the previous training, the 6th of march, those who came for training have roughly planned the week to organise this, which is on the first week of April. Though its not confirmed, we would really love to plan this and make it happen. We will be holding a meeting soon together with Aishah and i to further discuss on this. Wirda will inform you of the meeting once confirmed. Express your interest by suggesting activities and ideas that we can carry out at the old folks home.

By the way, this is the home that we have planned to "attack" first. hehe. Do read up on them. I have copied and paste some information on them from their site. Its one of the Jamiyah homes, Darul Takrim. The location is very convenient and the home encourages the community to contribute (last para).

DARUL TAKRIM

Objectives
To provide shelter and care for the aged and the destitute
of all race and religion.

The Muslim Missionary Society Singapore was appointed
as the Managing Agent in 1997 to run one of the five replacements
homes for the destitutes created by the then Ministry of Community
Development consequent to the shifting of the Woodlands Home.

Thus the Jamiyah Home for the Aged was established
and it was located at No: 1 Ching Cheng Avenue at the former
Still Road Polyclinic premises, which was renovated for the
purpose. A purpose built new Home at 1Tampines Ave 3
was built by the Ministry of Community Development
in the year 1998 and handed over to Jamiyah Singapore.

This purpose built Home with the state of the art facility
for elder care functions as a centre for service for the frail
and needy destitutes. The Home can accommodate 186 residents
and most of the residents are the elderly.

The Home admits residents from all races and religious
background. Residents are normally ambulant and they are
provided with nutritious meals taking into considerations
their dietary needs. A team of nurses, welfare officers,
nursing aides and attendants provide round the clock care
facility at the Home.

We also encourage volunteers including students from
the secondary schools and tertiary institutions to visit
the Home and organise activities and interact with
the residents. The daily routine of the Home includes
programmes such as Physiotherapy, Tai Chi exercises,
art and craft sessions, reading and listening sessions,
religious discourses, recreational programmes, indoor
and out door programmes organised with the help of
staff and volunteers.

so today was another mini farewell for our lovely abg amin! it was our last training with him before he leaves us ( again! ) to go further his studies in Brisbane ( again!! ). in true SNT fashion, we held a mini farewell for him, full of letters, cakes, laughs and love(: though it wasnt full strength, there was lots of love and kisses. like literally! =p

Passing Down Ceremony

after every academic year, SNT will have a passing down ceremony to commemorate the passing over of responsibility from one committee to another. and mind you, SNT's committee is power okay! very the big(:

this year, on 9th January 2010, Kesenian Si Anak Tari decided to make it a much more special occasion and hold our Passing Down Ceremony out of school..! yay! we decided that Arab St was a good area, and Pyramid's was the lepak spot of choice for us girls.

the Passing Down Ceremony was an event that was both full of fun, laughter, tears and heartfelt moments. all in all, it was a great day spent with awesome people to celebrate an amazing year. the committee of '09/10 passed down their roles to the new committee members of 10/11, 6 awards were given, and 3 farewell speeches were made, 2 shisha-s were ordered, 1 day of awesome-ness. oh! and january babies' birthday was celebrated..hehe =p

Why SNT is awesome

hey girls! your new blog mistress is here! *ehem ehem*
ive decided that my first official post shall be 'bout why i think the SNT family is awesome. I know ( hope! ) that you girls will agree with me on this, 'cause i think ( hope! ) that the feeling and sentiments are mutual.
here goes!

first and foremost, dance is a beautiful art form. no matter what genre of dance you go in to, the principle is the same, the expression of words and emotions through movements is the same. dance is about how you tell a story without words, but with ones body. what makes a dance impressionable and memorable is how it is able to touch the audience's heart, how it evokes emotion. that is what makes dance so amazingly beautiful.

what makes a dancer great is not her natural-born talent, rather her ability to work hard to improve and upgrade herself in her art form. a great dancer is one who works at becoming better with every step, one who works at expressing herself ( or himself, i cannot be sexist ) better with every turn. it doesnt matter how good one can dance. at the end of the day, if the movements they make is just that, movements, then they have achieved nothing. every time a dancer accepts a choreography, or choreographs a piece, they work on bringing out the story, character and emotions of the dance. A dancer who can do just that is one to be respected.

and i think that this is what makes Kesenian Si Anak Tari an awesome ~~CCA~~ family. as dancers, Sisters, we give room for each other to grow, we help each other to grow. us girls work pretty darn hard to make things work, and i think we have made things work. what we have? no one can touch it. we may not be the most perfect group of dancers, but we are family. that in itself should account for something. a very BIG something.

SNT of AY 09/10 is, i think, the best that I have ever been in. It was an extremely great year for us, and i have no doubts that the other girls will agree. the bond that we have managed to forge is just amazing, and the group that we have now is much stronger now than it was previously. we have our President Kathy to thank for that. she has worked her butt off to make things work, with the help of the committee of course, and i think she deserves a shout out.

SNT is awesome because we are a bunch of crazy girls doing crazy things bonding through dance. our shared passion. SNT is awesome because we are "SISTERS OF ISLAM". SNT is awesome because we have Abg Yazid and Abg Amin. SNT is awesome because we get along so well. SNT is awesome because we always meet expectations at the end of the day. SNT is awesome because we work hard to come this far. SNT is awesome because we dance like there is no tomorrow. SNT is awesome because the Ladies of SNT are awesome to maxxx!

Hey guys!
SNT went to watch
Singapore Idols Grand Finale
At Indoor stadium on the 27th of December!
Unfortunately not all of us could make it.
Only 9 of us went.
But thats half of SNT already.
So its quite a good number :)

We didnt know what to expect,
So as usual, being us,
We dressed up for the occassion.
The theme was glam!
So when we reached the stadium,
We were told the most shocking thing ever.
We were told that we had to act as auditioners of Singapore Idols and run up on stage as the opening!
So, we were given Number stickers.
It was an awesome experience for us.
I mean come on!
Its not everyday that you get the chance to be on National TV.
Its not everyday that you get the chance to be part of a very huge event,
Where people from all across Singapore are gonna watch you!

The day spent with SNT was just fabulous! :D
Plus, we managed to snap some pretty amazing shots of us...

SNT was supposed to have an outing on the 24th, Thursday.
Unfortunately, many couldnt make it.
Thus it was down to 4 dancers only.
Dian, Atikah, Azelah and Sheiqeen.
Sad kan.
Nvm nvm, Sunday will be it ;p

Nonetheless, the night was extremely fun!!
We played Charades and poker cards.
Freaking kekek okay!
hahahaha!
Atikah lost in all the games.
Azelah joined her at the losing end in the last game.

Coincidentally, both of them were wearing pink.
So, Dian and Sheiqeen came up with this: "Pink Sway" lol!
We took videos of all forfeits.
OMG, Azelah's one is a classic ;p

Those Japanese people were adorable!
And we saw Harry Porter's Japanese twin.
But overall the best thing was...
They were pretty much enthusiastic bout learning the dance steps.
They were very friendly,
And scarily NEAT. lol.

Yesterday was SNT's first production for the year.
And it turned out BOOMSZ!!
After all the trainings and pushing,
it finally paid off.

Jalan Raya bersama SNT was awesome!
Finally a huge response from the group of current dancers, SNT.
The outing was kecoh, exciting and hilarious!
Things went as planned, as usual LOL. SNT wat.
However, very sorry to those leaving in the West,
Coz we didnt have enough time to visit your houses.
Plus, we didnt have transport.

SNT iftar @ Bugis

Holla people. The other time on 3rd september we had an SNT iftar together with the alumnis, Sadly, some didn't get the message, others were not free. It was a good bonding session with the alumnis because we get to mingle and catch up with what we have missed. Although some couldn't stay for long, your presence was appeaciated.

We has buka at Rasa Istimewa and then headed for Shisha session at El-sheikh. Overall, it was a good time spent. Look forward to more of SNT outings preferably with the alumnis!

Trainings

Hello girls.

Competition is around the corner you girls really have to train hard. We'll do our best despite anything else. I will need all your cooperation. Please dun try to leave early what so ever for these few trainings as time is a constraint. We are almost there and Abang is making an effort to stay and help us in completing the dance.

Girls performing on 7th August, please come doen for trainings aite as time is running out.

Those who wish to get tickets to watch Persada Juara Tari, tix are going at $10 and first come first serve.

Trainings for Competition Girls will be very intensive. I expected 100% attendance and commitment. Thank you.

Saturday: 10 am (meet outside key office)
Monday: 6 pm Outside Bookshop
Tuesday: 6 pm (dance Studi0)
Wednesday: 6 pm Alumni Lounge
Friday: 6 pm Outside Bookshop

Currently we do not have a secretary and the post will only be appointed during passing down. I hope the next batch of committee would do a better job and take past experiences as lessons learnt.

Today was SNT's Outing 2!

We had lotsa fun and took TRUCKLOADS of pics.
In my cam only got a bit la but in aishah's cam,I'm sure there's maany3 more yet for me to see! SO DON'T FORGET TO SEND THE PICS ARH ALL OF U! Hehe ;)

So for 1st stop,met at Far East Plaza abt 3 plus,a few of them were craving for Cahaya but boy the service SUCKS big time! Nobody came to attend to us regardless of the GAZILLION times we tried to call them to take our orders. So girls being girls, we got up and left for Sakura instead. And I doubt we regretted that decision for even a teeny-weeny bit! We have heavy cash with us okay,it's Cahaya's loss,not ours. So yeah. Here are the pics at Cahaya;D

So we reached Sakura and quickly browsed through the menu for our orders...

And after that it's CAMWHORING TIME! ;D

Da penat camwhore we settled down to play games and makan of course! Hehe. We played this I-dunno-what-is-it-called game (probably paam para para/tonggak tonggak/kuchi kuchi game??) and Truth or Dare, before Syu and the rest had to go off already...

Good news ladies and gentlemen!

I just received a call from Intexco ( the company which i used to print snt shirt).
They have finished printing our t-shirts and i'm getting my dearest boyfriend to pick them up tomorrow so you girls can get your shirts! Yay!

The remaining shirts, can the assistant and the wadrobe mistress to bring them home or some of you bring some home or anyhow you can sort it. The SAR would not be opened so we can't put our shirts there.

For those freshies who paid up late, i'm sorry i could not order your shirt because i have already sent for processing earlier on and you missed the deadline. YOu have got to wait for the next batch of printing which i am not sure when. YOu'll receive your money back from syuhadah.

To alumni, DEE! Please pay ASAP ok bebeh. (i sound like loan shark already)
To the rest of the alumni, thank you for taking the time off your busy schedules to transfer me the $15. Thank you very much.

Hello ladies!

I hope you have enjoyed your well deserved short break... because training is resuming on SATURDAY!

Ok, trainngs for the moment would be for the Competition people. Abang is going to be away on the 18th to 26th june for some reasons. So, we have to progress on the competition piece so while he's away we can brush up and train hard.

As for the TP Rawks people, trainings will commence once abang says so owkay. Don't worry, you people won't be left out orite. =)

Also do not forget to bring $1 for every saturday training because this is an initiative to collect snt funds. When snt funds are collected we can go happy happy together!

Training this saturday at 10 am meet at dance studio orite. See you girls!

I would like to thank you people who went all the way to Yew Tee cc to watch Karya 2009. I'm very touched to see you girls there. I dunnoe how to express this liberating feeling I have. Thank you for giving me your support. I love you girls. I dun have the pictures with the freshies who came. Those with that pic can pass to me? Thank you my CST freshies for coming! I really appreaciate it alot from the bottom of my heart.

Ok, trainings for competition and TP rawks are suspended for the time being due to common test. It will resume back on 6th June 2009. I hope to see all of you back aite.

Seniors please take note, block 30th May 2009, saturady for a monthly meeting. Alot of updating have to be done. See all of you there aite. No excuses, I won't tolerate it on that day. We will meet outside library at 10 am ok. So those who have work can go off by 12 or 1 pm.

I want to wish all of you good luck for your Term test orite.

Hello baby girls,

The audition and selection for dancers who are going to represent Temasek Polytechnic Kesenian Si anak Tari at Persada Juara Tari 2009 has been carried out. Those who have not been selected please don't be disheartened as there are still so many opportunities for all of you. I'm so proud that my SNT girls can dance and ARE dancers. Auditions had to be carried out because there are only 8 places available for the competition. So i hope you girls understand. :)

Regarding the competition:

1. Only 1 song is used for all the schools that participated

2. Theme: Joget Inang

3. Competition is at CairnHill CC on the 25th July 2009

4. 10 tix are availeble. Each dancer can take 1 tix and the remaining 2 for supporters

5. 3 passes would be given for helpers and choreographer

6. Please maintain your discipline during the competition event

7. We are item number 6.

8. The competition may take the whole day from 12 pm to 4 pm.

9. food and transport would hopefully be provided by TP cos cairnhill won't be supplying food

10. All dancers are to wear SNT t-shirt

Those who have made it to the competition, remember that this is a serious matter and we have to work hard to make things and dreams happen for SNT. I really hope for the best and may my prayers come true to make a difference for SNT.

Those who are to perform for TP rawks, you have to work hard too. Students from secondary schools would be coming to watch you, so make that impression that we ARE professional dancers. We set the standards right.

Attendance would be taken for both Cmpetition and TP rawks trainings. Those who are not committed enough i'm sorry i cannot count you in. You have to meet atleast 90% of the attendance.

To my seniors i hope all of you cooperate and do your parts. Those with posts and responsibilities, please carry them out and carry them out WELL. If you have problems or any disturbing issues please feel free to pour your hearts with me. We sure can work something out. To my seniors, I take your commitement seriously. If you fail to comply to your responsibilities, i would not have any objections to remove you from the committee. This is a serious matter as SNT is a Dance Group by its own now and we have to set the standards starting from me and you.

Hello babies,

First, sorry for cancelling Saturday training. I totally forgot its VESAK DAY! And so sorry syu for wasting ur msg. And i have to waste ur msg again cos training next week in on Friday because apparently budak2 hip hop needs to use th dance studio for their upcoming show practice. So, we just cooperate je la kan... What can we do, Mummy Cynthia da begging.

And so, T shirt updates! I have gone to order the shirts already. Name embroidery would be in gold and it will be a dri fit polo tee. I hope you girls would like it. Those alumnis who have yet to pay, i totally understand gaji belom masok. So transfer it by wednesday aite if you wanna order. I'll close the whole tshirt order thingy on Wednesday night alright. No payment, no shirt. =) I appreaciate your cooperation very much.

And, SNT would be participating in Persada Juara Tari 2009. I'll be going for the briefing next saturday at cairnhill cc, i'll submit the names on that day. So those who wish to participate in this competition, please come down for trainings when there are trainings aite. Your commitment is very important.

I have also submitted seal points for the cca recruitment and human wheel barrow performances aite. So, go check your TP emails.

A Birthday Wish Granted

I woke up to what it seems to be just another day in my all-so-mundane life. I knew it was my birthday but it was just another day meant to be spend doing my never-ending essays. Deep inside me there was a wish. A birthday wish. A wish for a group of beautiful girls to do well for their performance....

A few hundred miles away a few girls were rushing to school to get ready for an event. Their CCA recruitment. The performance to begin a whole new journey for Kesenian Si Anak Tari....

I cried. Yes I did. You girls are so beautiful. Something I know I may not have had the capability to give you. Your Abg Yazid did wonders in making all of you uniformed. And the costume did wonders to accentuate all of your beauty and grace.

I sit here... astounded by the wonderful video. I cry because I am happy and glad that you girls did so well. I am sad because I was not there physically to hug everyone of you... And that I tell is truly painful.

Here I am researching about Women Rights and Violence against women... and the statistics pulls me down witih anguish... But that video... that video made me realise the worth of women in society. Indeed, you girls have made want to be even more determined to show to the world the worth of women and the strength that comes with empowering them. You girls are role models to many out there who are deprive of education as well as the freedom to express themselves.

I am so proud of you... I am. And thank you so much for granting my birthday wish...

I love you girls very much and love my best friend and all the others who have helped out...

I am too overwhem at this moment to proceed...

Remember my advice:

Learn from your alumni.
Educate yourself about the world.
Express yourself through your passion.
Respect those who have earned your respect.

SNT have performed a show on St Patricks Day at UOB plaza. It was a wet performance cos it rained lucky no one fell. Those who were not presen to support us, i understand you had commitments. But next time please try to be present for any performance we have to live up the spirit. No videos cos no one was there to take a video. Dancers were myself, aishah, zelah, nadia and syuhadah. You girls did a nice job. Thumbs up for the 5 of us!

We would like to thank Abang Rizal for lending us his place to make up and get ready, Abang for choreographing the dance, Fadilah for coming down to one of our training, Din to help with our trainings, Kak shiqeen to help us make up and Kak Yanie for writing our receipts for rental. Also to Raimie, for being the transporter for the day by driving us everywhere.

Last but not least, thank you Cynthia for giving us this last minute show. It was worthwhile and it was a good experience. Dancers, we have to learn how to work under pressure and under limited time.
